The V&A will be the first to host a retrospective dedicated to the great fashion innovator Cristobal Balenciaga.
The exhibition is set to mark the 100th anniversary of when Balenciaga first opened the doors to his namesake fashion and the the 80th anniversary since he opened the doors to his famous Paris boutique.
Roughly 100 garments and a large handful of accessories representing the work of both Balenciaga himself as well as the designers that followed will be brought together with a collection of drawings, sketches, photos and swatches of fabric. This will give us an in-depth look at the workmanship that Balenciaga’s reputation was built on and his reputation as being one of the most creative and innovative designers in the industry.
The V&A has managed to acquire a lot of his already iconic items of clothing but also a few archival pieces that no one has ever seen.
With the brands hands currently being rebranded by Demna Gvasalia it’ll be interesting to see the progression that time and style has taken.
The exhibition starts on the 27th of May 2017 until February 2018. Plenty of time to gawk at some cool clothes.
